Aadhaar Document Update is a mandatory update step requested to be completed by Aadhaar holders by the UIDAI. As per UIDAI, individuals Aadhaar gets strengthen by updating documents in Aadhaar database by submitting latest proof of identity and proof of address documents. This helps in ensuring continued accuracy of information in the Aadhaar database.

Aadhaar Document Update is not similar like the regular Aadhaar Update process. The following are the key differences between the two processes:

Who Should Do Aadhaar Document Update
Aadhaar Document Update needs to be done by all Aadhaar Holders who have received the aadhaar document update message or if you are able to see a notification “Your Aadhaar needs Document Update” once logging into UIDAI Website using Aadhaar Number.

This message or notification of Aadhaar document update notice is received by all holders whose Aadhaar was issued more than 10 years back and since then it was not been updated.
The process of document update for Aadhaar can be performed either by visiting a nearby Aadhaar Seva Kendra or by utilizing the online platform. However, it is important to note that the requirement for Aadhaar document update is applicable only to specific individuals who have received communication via SMS or have observed a notification upon logging on to the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) website using their Aadhaar credentials. The process of document update is completely different as of Aadhaar Update.
Below is the complete process explained which will help you go through the Aadhaar Document Update.
How to Aadhaar Document Update Online
To update document in Aadhaar visit the UIDAI’s official website https://uidai.gov.in/
Upon visiting the above URL, you will be asked to select your preferred language in which you want to access the website
Select your preferred language and it will redirect to the UIDAI Homepage
From the UIDAI Homepage options, click on the Update Demographics Data & Check Status which is under Update Aadhaar Category
This will open myAadhaar page, from this page you need to just click on the login button
On next screen you will be able to see a login page, in which you will need to enter your 12 digits Aadhaar Number solve the CAPTCHA security code and click on the Send OTP button
A One-Time-Password will be generated and sent on your Aadhaar registered mobile number
You need to enter the received OTP through SMS in the Enter OTP field and click on the Login button
Once logged in, all the online services which you can avail will be displayed
On top you will get to see a message “Your Aadhaar needs “Document Update”. Kindly click here to upload your Proof of Identity and/or Proof of Address documents.”
In case if you are not able to see such message, then updating document is not applicable for you.
To proceed updating the document you can just click on the click here link which you can see in the top notification or else under services there will also be an option namely Document Update
So by clicking on the Document Update option available under services you can proceed with document update process
Note down the Document Update Service is free until 14th December 2023, and if update your documents after 14th December 2023 then the charges would be applicable.
On next screen the objective of document update service will be mentioned
To proceed further, just click on the Next button
The next page will show how it works, so from here too just click on the Next button
So the actual process of document update starts here, which is divided into three steps
Step 1 Verify Aadhar Details
On this page your Aadhaar details will be displayed such as full name, gender, date of birth and address
You need to verify your details and tick mark on the below “I verify that the above details are correct”
Once tick marking on the verification box, the next button will be enabled
Just click on the next button
Step 2 Aadhar Documents Upload
In this step, you will need to upload the address proof and proof of identity documents. There are specific requirements to be followed which is the document size should be less than 2MB In size and the supported file formats are JPEG, PNG and PDF
So make sure you have the documents scanned and stored on your device as per the requirement
Once you have scanned copies of the documents ready on your device, from the Please upload Proof of Identity (POI) Document select the appropriate document which you will be uploading from the list
Once selecting the document from the list a popup will appear with a document advisory stating
“Please make sure the document you upload is compliant with the below advisory. If not, the request may be rejected by back-end-operators team.
- The document must have the name and photograph of the resident
- The document mush be valid
- The scanned image of the document must be legible”
Just click on the OK button then click on the View Details & Upload Document button
This will bring a pop-up, please upload valid document to process your request “If the document is for Identity Proof, it should be in your name and should have a photograph. Please verify that ‘Name’ mentioned above in the screen matches ‘Name’ in document you are uploading.”
From the pop-up window, click on the Continue to Upload button
Select the document from your device and the file will get uploaded
From the Please upload Proof of Address (POA) Document, select the document from the list which you will be uploading
Once document from the list is select again and document advisory will popup saying
“Please make sure the document you upload is compliant with the below advisory. If not, the request may be rejected by back-end-operators teams
- The document must have name and address of the resident
- The Scanned image of the document be legible”
Click on the OK button from the document advisory popup, click on the view details and upload document button
Yet again a popup will appear Please upload a valid document to process your request “If the document is for address proof, it should be in your name. Documents in the name of the spouse, guardian or parents will not be accepted. Please verify that ‘Address ‘ mentioned above in the screen matches ‘Address’ in document you are uploading.”
Click on the Continue to upload button from the popup
Select the stored document from your device and it will get uploaded
Tick mark on “I hereby give my consent that the information/documents provided/uploaded by me may be subjected to verification at any stage by the Government” and click on the Next button
A popup will appear “Please confirm your demographic details in the documents exactly matches with your demographic details in Aadhaar.” click on the Okay button to continue
Step 3 Submit
The final step will be of making payment, just complete a online payment using Debit Card, Net Banking or UPI (If you are making document update before 14th December 2023, then you wont be charged any fee instead will show a message “Dear resident, This service is free of cost till 14/12/2023” on this page)
Upon completion of the payment, an acknowledgment will be generated.
To get the copy of the acknowledgement just click on the Download Acknowledgement button
The Acknowledgement Slip of Document Update will contain details like your Aadhaar Number, SRN (Service Request Number), Invoice Number, Amount Paid, Date of Payment, Request Type.
You should not submit the document again unless you receive a message from UIDAI instructing you to do so.
The verification process may take around 1 to 2 weeks, and you can check the status of your request in the dashboard under the “Requests” section.

As of now there isn’t any last date assigned by UIDAI for Aadhaar Document Update.
