Unique Identification Authority of India who is a sole authority who issues Aadhaar, has insisted that no schools in India can make Aadhaar mandatory for student admissions. Asking Aadhaar as mandatory requirement for admissions in School would be against the recent order of the Supreme Court of India. Recently admissions of nursery and entry-level classes has just begun in over 1,500 private schools in Delhi, so to avoid any such conditions of mandatory requirement of Aadhaar during admissions, the UIDAI has given the warning.
However there are reports coming regarding certain schools which are still insisting on Aadhaar as one of the documents required for Admissions. UIDAI are aware about these reports, where several schools are still asking Aadhaar Card for Students Admissions. On this incident UIDAI has said that “this is not at all correct and not as per the provisions of the Law”, Admissions in Schools and other facilities to children’s cannot be made conditional to production of Aadhaar.
UIDAI has informed school authorities across India that no child should denied admission for lack of Aadhaar. Instead Schools should admit Children’s without requirement of Aadhaar and ensure that children are enrolled for Aadhaar once they are in schools by arranging special champs.
If Schools still continues to assert on Aadhaar for admissions, then it will be clearly seen as contempt of court.

The Supreme Court verdict also said that Aadhaar should not be mandatory for Admissions in Schools, Examinations conducted by Central Board of Secondary Examination, National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for medical entrance and the University Grants Commission.
