Aadhaar Card has gained importance day by day whether it might be to avail subsidies or for any other purpose. A minor or major error in the Aadhaar Card address could create problems, but the same can be corrected or updated by using UIDAI Self Service Update Portal (SSUP). Aadhaar Card Address Change or Update feature also proves useful when you have shifted to a new address.

In the past using Self Service Update Portal (SSUP) you could not only update your Aadhaar Address but you could also update other demographic details such as Name, Age, Gender, and Date of Birth. But now through Self Service Update Portal (SSUP), you can only update your Address.
So now let’s get started on how to change the address in Aadhaar Card Online as well as how to change the address in Aadhaar Card Offline mode.
But before we get started with the tutorial on how to change the address in Aadhaar card let’s check out the requirements to change the address in the UID card.
To submit a request to Change or Update your Aadhaar Address, you will need address proof documents with your updated or correct address.
Below is the List of Supported Documents which you will need to Change Address in Aadhaar Card.

Supported Proof of Address (PoA) documents for Aadhaar Address Correction or Update:
Passport, Bank Statement/ Passbook, Ration Card, Voter ID, Driving License, Government Photo ID Cards/ Service Photo Identity Card issued by PSU, Electricity Bill (not older than 3 months), Water Bill (not older than 3 months), Telephone Landline bill (not older than 3 months), Property Tax Receipt (not older than 3 months), Credit Card Statement (not older than 3 months), Insurance Policy, Signed Letter having Photo from Bank on letterhead, Signed letter having photo issued by registered company on letterhead, signed letter having photo issued by recognized educational instruction on letterhead, NREGS Job Card, Arms License, Pensioner Card, Freedom Fighter Card, Kissan Passbook, CGHS/ ECHS Card, Certificate of address having photo issued by MP or MLA or Gazetted Officer or Tehsildar on letterhead, Certificate of address issued by village panchayat head or its equivalent authority (for rural areas), Income Tax Assessment Order, Vehicle Registration Certificate, Registered Sale/ Lease/ Rent Agreement, Address card having photo issued by departments of posts, caste and domicile certificate having photo issued by state govt., disability ID Card/ handicapped medical certificate issued by the respective State/UT Governments/ Administrations, Gas Connection Bill (not older than 3 months), Passport Spouse, Passport of Parents (in case of minor).
Step by Step Tutorial to Change Address in Aadhaar Card Online
You are eligible to submit Address Update or Change Request Online via Self Service Portal only if you have your mobile number linked or registered with your Aadhaar. If your cell phone number is not registered then you cannot proceed with this process of updating Address Online via SSUP.
- Visit UIDAI Official Website https://uidai.gov.in/
- From the UIDAI Homepage options just click on Update your address online which is under Update Aadhaar Section
- A new page called Aadhaar Self Service Update Portal (SSUP) will open, on that page two options will be displayed:
- Proceed to Update Address
- Request for Address Validation Letter
- Just click on Proceed to Update Address
- On the next page, you will need to enter your Aadhaar Number or VID Number and then solve the Captcha Verification by typing the characters you see in the picture
- Just click on Send OTP or Enter a TOTP (if you are having mAadhaar App Installed on your phone)

- Enter the received OTP or displayed TOTP and click on the login button

- Next page will display two options asking to select how you would like to update the address
- Update Address via Address Proof
- Update Address via Secret Code
As here we are updating address by submitting address proof documents so just click on Update Address via Address Proof
On the next page a form will be displayed where you will need to enter your complete updated or correct address as per your address proof document which you are submitting.

Enter the Address details in English and press ‘Space’ to view the transliterated version of the entered text
Once entering the complete address, click on the preview button
The Address which you have entered will be previewed, have a quick review to entered details to check if you have made any mistakes
If details are appearing correct then just accept the undertaking by tick marking on the box “I hereby confirm that I have read the instructions carefully and the information provided by me to the UIDAI is true and correct” and click on the submit button
On the next page, you will be prompted to upload supporting document by selecting the document name from the list

Select the applicable document from the list which you are uploading and upload the document (the scanned document size must be below 2MB and it should be in JPEG, PNG or PDF)
Once uploading the document, click on submit button
Your Aadhaar Update Request Number will be generated, just note down the details or download the file for future tracking purpose
Your Address Update Request will get processed in between 1 day to 3 weeks
Once your request is verified and approved you will receive SMS on your registered mobile number
The Hard Copy of Updated Aadhaar will be sent on your registered address within 3 weeks. However, once your update request gets approved, you can download your updated Aadhaar Online.
Change Aadhaar Address Offline from Enrolment/Update Center
Your Aadhaar Address can be updated from UIDAI run Aadhaar Seva Kendra or Registrar run Aadhaar Seva Kendra. The offline mode of updating the Address in Aadhaar is very useful when you don’t have mobile number registered with your Aadhaar or if the holder doesn’t have any idea to update the address in Aadhaar Online.
So now let’s get started, first of all, let me make you aware that you can update your address in Aadhaar from any center located in any region of India. There is no such limitation that you should get your Aadhaar updated from your area or location centers. To make enrolment and update process reachable, UIDAI has made arrangements and opened Aadhaar Enrolment/ Update Center in Banks, Post Office, as well as there are several UIDAI run Aadhaar Seva Kendra’s.
Recently UIDAI has also set up an online appointment system where you can book an appointment online at Enrolment/ Update centers, and walk-in during specific time and date on which you have took the appointment. This online appointment system has drastically reduced the queue.
However direct applications without appointments are also entertained by the center, but appointment is given the first preference.

Walk into the center with your original documents, no need for photocopies (original documents will be return back to you upon verification).
Request for Aadhaar Update Application Form at the center.
Fill up details asked in the form, make sure you properly mention your new address in the form.
Once the form has been filled, you will need to head towards the verifier o get your form and documents verified.
Your documents will be verified and form will be reviewed by the verifier and then your original documents will be returned to you.
Next, you will need to head on to the operator, the operator will feed in the information in the software.
There will be a screen facing towards you, refer to that screen to make sure that the operator is correctly entering your details.
Once details are been entered, your biometrics such as fingerprints or iris will be captured for verification.
Once verification is completed, you will be handed over with an Aadhaar Update Enrolment receipt which would contain an enrolment update number with which you could track the status of your request.
For Address Update in your Aadhaar, you will be charged a nominal fee of ₹50 inclusive GST by the center.
Your update request will be processed upon verification by the UIDAI Verification Team, which could take 1 day to 3 weeks.
Once your address gets updated in your Aadhaar, you will receive a confirmation SMS on your registered mobile number.
You can download your updated address Aadhaar straightaway online from UIDAI Portal. However, the updated physical copy will also be sent on your registered address within 2 -3 weeks.
The below method to updating Address in Aadhaar by posting documents and correction form via India Post to UIDAI Office has been discontinued. You can update the Address in your Aadhaar by visiting Aadhaar Seva Kendra or Bank or Post office. The below process is just for your reference, showing how the old process used to work to update or change the address in Aadhaar Card via India Post.
Step by Step Tutorial on How to Change Address in Aadhaar Card Offline [Discontinued]
If you’re mobile number is not registered with your Aadhaar Card you will not be able to submit the request to Change your Address in Aadhaar Card Online. So in such a case, you can change the Address in Aadhaar Card using Offline mode. So to change the address in Aadhaar Offline follow the below steps.
- Download update/correction request form by CLICKING HERE.
- Print out the form and fill the form irrespective of the field/s for update/correction in block letters, don’t forget to mention mobile number as it is mandatory for update/ change in any of the fields as it may be used for verification by calling the applicant and the status of the Aadhaar Update Request will be notified by sending SMS on provided mobile number. Also, do fill the details in the local language in right-hand side column of the Aadhaar Data Update/Correction Form.
- Enclose any one Supported Proof of Address (PoA) document self-attested photocopy from the above-Supported Proof of Address (PoA) documents for Aadhaar Address Correction or Update list.
- Put the form and document in an envelope, and send it to below address.
