Voter ID is also known as Election Card or EPIC which denotes Electors Photo Identity Card. The main purpose of Voter ID is that it acts as identity Proof for Voters.
Without getting Voter ID, Citizen cannot vote for Elections, but there are some conditions which you should fulfill to apply for Election or Voter ID Card and they are:
- Applicant should be citizen of India
- Applicant should have completed 18 Years of age
- Applicant should have permanent address
If you fulfill all these three eligibility criteria then you are eligible candidate to apply for Voter ID and Vote Elections.
But to apply for Voter ID, you also need to submit Age Proof Document, and Address Proof Document. So here you can make use of Aadhaar Card while applying for Voter ID, as Aadhaar Card is one of the supported document listed which can be used as Age Proof Document while applying for Voter ID. But again for Address Proof document you will need to submit any other document from the supported list as the Aadhaar is not listed in supported document for Address Proof.

Process on How to Apply for Voter ID/ Election Card with Aadhaar Card
You can apply for Voter ID trough Online Mode or Offline Mode. If you are concerned about your convenience then you would like to opt for Online Mode as in this method you may not visit any office physically, just fill up online application and submit your request for Voter ID. And in Offline mode you will need to visit office and submit the form to apply for Voter ID. So below we have explained both the methods, you can choose which ever method which you prefers to use.
How to Apply for Voter ID/ Election Card with Aadhaar Card Offline
To apply for Voter ID via Offline mode you will need to first obtain application form 6 from the Electoral Registration Officer or the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer of your constituency or the Booth Level Officers of your polling station.
The Form will be available free of cost and won’t be charged for it.
You will need to fill up entire details which are asked in the form, paste your recent passport size photograph to the form and enclose copy of age proof document which could be Aadhaar or any other supported documents mentioned in the list and Address Proof document which is mentioned in the list.
Once you are done, just submit the form along with photocopies of the document to the Electoral Registration Officer or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer of your constituency.
Your application form will be displayed on the notice board of the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) inviting objections. If anyone has objection, they will have a one week time-period. Once this one week period, your name would be included in the electoral roll.
In case of any objections raised by any party then the ERO or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) will hear both the party case.
You will receive notice in case your name is included in the Electoral List as well as in case of any objection via post and through SMS which you have provided in the application form.
You will also receive your Voter ID on your address.
How to Apply for Voter ID/ Election Card with Aadhaar Card Online
Before we proceed with the process to apply for Voter ID Online, you will have to keep documents ready scanned on your PC/ Laptop or Smartphone Device or from whichever device you are submitting the application.
Below are the list of documents which you will have to keep ready on your device:
List of age proof document
- Birth certificate issued by a Municipal Authorities or district office of the Registrar of Births & Deaths or Baptism certificate; or
- Birth certificate from the school (Govt. / Recognized) last attended by the applicant or any other recognized educational institution; or
- If a person in class 10 or more pass, he should give a copy of the mark sheet of class 10, if it contains date of birth as a proof of date of birth; or
- Mark sheet of class 8 if it contains date of birth; or
- Mark sheet of class 5 if it contains date of birth; or
- Indian Passport; or
- PAN card; or
- Driving License; or
- Aadhar letter issued by UIDAI
List of residence proof document
- Bank / Kisan / Post Office current Pass Book; or
- Ration Card; or
- Passport; or
- Driving License; or
- Income Tax Assessment Order; or
- Latest rent agreement; or
- Latest Water / Telephone / Electricity / Gas Connection Bill for that address, either in the name of the applicant or that of his / her immediate relation like parents etc. ; or
- Any post / letter / mail delivered through Indian Postal Department in the applicant’s name at the address of ordinary residence.
And also one scanned passport size photograph will be required.
Remember that all these documents should be in .jpg,.png,.bmp,.jpeg) format and maximum size of the file should not cross 2MB.
Once you are done, just visit official National Voter’s Service Portal by visiting URL https://www.nvsp.in/
As you are new applicant, just click on Form 6 and an online form will open.
You can choose language as per your preference and fill up each and every details asked in the form.
Make sure you upload your passport size photograph and the document by selecting the appropriate document type which you are uploading.
Once done, solve the captcha and click on submit button.
That’s it you have done with submitting the online application to apply for Voter ID.
Now your form will be displayed on the notice board of the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) if any party has objection. If anyone has objection then they will have to report it within one week of time.
Once period of one week’s completes your name will be included in the electoral roll.
In case of any objections are received then the ERO or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) will hear to both the parties and take decision.
You will receive notice once your name is being included in the Electoral List and even if you have received any objection through post as well as on your phone via SMS.
In few weeks you will also receive your Voter ID on your address.
