S/O D/O W/O in Aadhaar has been now standardized to C/O

Some of you might be aware of the recent changes made by UIDAI, while others might not. So today in this post I will be going to clarify the recent updates to the S/O, D/O, and W/O fields in Aadhaar.

S/O D/O W/O in Aadhaar has been now standardized to C/O

Previously your Aadhaar was to contain details like S/O, D/O, and W/O, in-case if you had provided those details while enrolling or updating your Aadhaar. But now all these above fields like S/O, D/O and W/O has been standardized to one single field which is C/O.

With the recent update, you can no longer use the S/O, D/O, or W/O fields in Aadhaar, as they have been replaced with a single C/O field. This means mentioning your father’s name or husband’s name is now optional. If you wish to include these details, you can enter them in the C/O field. If you choose not to provide any information in the C/O field, you can leave it blank.

You’ll notice this recent change when you update your address online; you’ll see only the C/O field. You can use this field to enter your father’s, husband’s, or guardian’s name, or simply leave it blank. The same applies if you visit an Aadhaar center for updating your Aadhaar or applying for a new one.

Below is the official tweet reply by Aadhaar Official twitter handle replying to one of the query regarding the same update:

Aadhaar C/O

The relation and the relative’s name are part of the address field in Aadhaar. Previously, this was indicated as S/o, D/o, or W/o. We have now standardized it to C/o. Filling this field is optional. You can update your address in Aadhaar and choose to enter your father’s name in the C/o field or leave it blank.

  1. I have a question. Let us say, a woman whose Aadhaar shows W/O XYZ and then her address who moves out and wants her Aadhaar to be updated with the new address and remove the husband’s name. If she uses the UIDAI SSUP for updation of her details, leaves the C/O details as blank and fills out the new address. Now, after update will the detail W/O XYZ be removed or will it be C/O XYZ? What could she do?

  2. I have updated my adhar card now only my father name is there in adhar card instead of writing d/o durgaprasad guthula

  3. I have updated my adhar card . Now only father name is written instead of showing d/o durga prasad …. is it will create hurdle in passport address proof ???? Please help
